First Day of Ramzan 2026 Declared by Hyderabad Moon Sighting Committee
Crescent Moon Sighting Marks Beginning of Holy Month
The holy month of Ramzan 2026 will begin following the official confirmation by the moon sighting committee in Hyderabad. Religious authorities announced that the crescent moon had been sighted, formally marking the start of the sacred Islamic month. With this declaration, Muslims will observe the first fast (Roza) from the following day, while special nightly Taraweeh prayers will commence the same evening.
Mosques Witness Preparations for Taraweeh
Soon after the announcement, mosques across the city began making arrangements for the first Taraweeh prayers. Worshippers gathered in large numbers, reflecting the spiritual enthusiasm that accompanies the start of Ramzan.
Religious leaders urged devotees to dedicate the month to prayer, discipline, and humanitarian values. Mosque committees also coordinated logistical preparations to manage increased footfall during nightly congregations.
Religious Importance of Ramzan
Ramzan is regarded as one of the holiest months in Islam. It commemorates the period when the Holy Quran is believed to have been revealed. Observing fasts from dawn to sunset is a central practice, symbolising self-restraint, spiritual reflection, and devotion to faith.
Fasting during Ramzan is not limited to abstaining from food and drink; it also emphasises moral conduct, patience, and compassion toward others.
Iftar, Community Bonding and Charity
Each day’s fast concludes at sunset with Iftar, when families and communities gather to break their fast together. Markets and food streets in Hyderabad have begun witnessing late-night activity, with people purchasing fruits, dates, and festive food items.
Charitable giving forms a core pillar of Ramzan observance. Acts such as Zakat and Sadaqah encourage helping the poor and needy. Several organisations and volunteers arrange food distribution drives and community Iftars throughout the month.
Administrative and Civic Arrangements
Local authorities and mosque management bodies are also coordinating security, traffic control, and public convenience measures, especially around major religious centres. Special arrangements are typically intensified during Friday prayers and in the last ten days of Ramzan, considered spiritually significant.
Eid-ul-Fitr to Conclude the Observance
The month-long fasting period will culminate with the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, which will also be determined by the sighting of the next crescent moon. The festival is marked by special prayers, festive meals, and charitable contributions.
As Ramzan begins, scholars and community leaders have called on people to embrace the month’s message of peace, generosity, and unity.
