Jaishankar Reaffirms India’s Neutral Stand, Urges Diplomacy in West Asia War

India has reaffirmed its neutral and balanced diplomatic approach amid the growing conflict in West Asia involving Iran, Israel and the United States. External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stressed that India supports peace, dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the only viable solution to the crisis.

Addressing Parliament, Jaishankar said the situation in the region remains deeply concerning and requires urgent international attention. He emphasised that India advocates de-escalation, restraint and constructive dialogue between the parties involved in the conflict.

According to the minister, India has consistently maintained that disputes should be resolved through diplomatic means rather than military confrontation. “Dialogue and diplomacy remain the best path forward,” he reiterated, highlighting India’s longstanding commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.

India’s balanced position stems from its extensive relations with countries across West Asia. New Delhi has strong strategic and economic ties with Israel while also maintaining important historical and cultural connections with Iran. At the same time, India continues to engage closely with the United States on security and global strategic issues.

This complex network of relationships has encouraged India to adopt a cautious diplomatic approach that prioritises stability and avoids taking sides in the conflict. Officials believe that maintaining open communication with all parties can help reduce tensions and support diplomatic solutions.

Jaishankar also underlined the importance of protecting civilians and preventing further escalation that could destabilise the wider region. The conflict has already created significant uncertainty, and expanding hostilities could have global consequences.

Another key concern for the Indian government is the welfare of the large Indian diaspora living in West Asian countries. Many Indian citizens work in sectors such as construction, healthcare and energy across the region. Ensuring their safety remains a top priority for the government.

Indian authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with diplomatic missions to provide support to citizens who may be affected by the conflict. In cases where travel disruptions occur, the government is prepared to facilitate evacuations and emergency assistance.

Energy security is also a major factor influencing India’s stance. The Middle East remains a crucial source of crude oil imports for India, and instability in the region could lead to disruptions in supply and increased prices in global markets.

Despite these challenges, India continues to emphasise that constructive dialogue between nations is essential to prevent further escalation. By urging diplomacy and restraint, New Delhi hopes to contribute to international efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
