From Organisation Builders to New Faces: Meet BJP’s Bengal Power Team

The formation of West Bengal’s first BJP government has brought together a cabinet that mixes seasoned strategists, regional strongmen and emerging leaders. Led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the new ministry is being viewed as a carefully crafted political team aimed at reshaping governance in the state.

At the heart of the cabinet is veteran BJP leader Dilip Ghosh, whose role in building the BJP’s organisational structure in Bengal is widely acknowledged. Over the years, Ghosh became the face of the BJP’s aggressive grassroots campaign against the Trinamool Congress. His inclusion in the cabinet signals continuity between the party’s organisational rise and its transition into governance.

Alongside him stands Agnimitra Paul, the only woman in the first phase of the ministry. Paul’s journey from fashion design to frontline politics has made her one of the BJP’s most recognisable urban faces in Bengal. Her induction is also politically significant because it helps BJP strengthen its appeal among women and middle-class Bengali voters.

Another key figure is Nisith Pramanik, who carries influence in north Bengal and among Rajbanshi voters. His political experience at the national level is expected to help the new government manage both administrative and regional challenges.

The inclusion of Ashok Kirtania is being seen as BJP’s outreach to the Matua community, a politically influential group in border districts. Similarly, tribal leader Kshudiram Tudu represents the party’s efforts to maintain support in tribal regions of Junglemahal.

The swearing-in ceremony itself carried symbolic importance. Held at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, it featured the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior NDA leaders, reflecting the BJP’s intention to project Bengal as a major political frontier.

Political analysts believe the cabinet reveals BJP’s dual strategy — rewarding long-time loyalists while introducing leaders who can connect with younger and urban voters. The party also appears focused on caste and community representation, ensuring that multiple social groups see themselves reflected in the new administration.

The cabinet may currently be compact, but its political messaging is expansive. Each minister represents not just a constituency but also a broader electoral bloc that BJP hopes to consolidate in the years ahead.

As the new government settles into office, expectations are high regarding law and order, industrial revival, employment and Centre-state coordination. The performance of this first BJP cabinet will likely shape not only Bengal’s future but also the BJP’s long-term ambitions in eastern India.
