More Than 50 CCTV Cameras Examined In Delhi Teen Murder Investigation

A decomposed body discovered in a Delhi field has triggered a detailed police investigation involving extensive CCTV analysis, vehicle tracing and questioning of several suspects.

The incident was reported on September 13 after residents of Swaroop Nagar alerted police about a body lying in an open field near Kushak Road. According to police, the remains were severely decomposed and some parts had been disturbed by stray dogs.

The condition of the body initially prevented investigators from establishing even the victim’s gender. Police later identified the deceased as a teenage girl and said the medical examination indicated sexual assault. Investigators also reported multiple stab injuries.

The investigation became more complicated because there was no apparent eyewitness to the alleged crime. Police therefore began reconstructing the victim’s movements using CCTV footage.

More than 50 CCTV cameras from the suspected crime area and surrounding routes were examined. During this process, investigators identified footage showing a tempo moving near the location around the relevant time.

The vehicle’s registration number was not clearly visible in some footage because of darkness. Police nevertheless tracked the tempo across several camera locations, gradually reconstructing its route.

The vehicle was eventually traced to Khadda Colony. Investigators identified and questioned its driver. Police said the questioning provided information that helped them identify additional suspects.

Four people were subsequently apprehended, including three juveniles. Police identified the adult suspect as Shivam alias Sudama alias Chuchu, while the other three suspects were reported to be minors aged 16 and 17.

Police allege that the victim knew the suspects and had travelled with them in the tempo. According to the police account, the group spent time together before the girl was allegedly assaulted and killed.

Investigators have recovered two knives allegedly associated with the killing, clothing reportedly worn by the suspects and the tempo. These items are being examined as part of the investigation.

The victim’s family had not reported her missing before the discovery of the body. Police said relatives told them that she sometimes left home for periods and returned later.

The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the BNS and POCSO Act. Since three of the suspects are juveniles, their alleged involvement will be dealt with under the legal framework applicable to children in conflict with law.

The CCTV investigation is significant because the authorities initially had limited information about the perpetrators. By connecting footage from different locations, investigators were able to trace the suspected vehicle despite difficulties in reading its registration number.

Police are continuing to verify the evidence and reconstruct the timeline. Investigators are also examining whether other individuals may have played a role.

The arrests mark a major development in the case, but the investigation is not yet complete. The evidence recovered, forensic findings and statements recorded by police will be important in determining what happened and establishing responsibility through the judicial process.
