Aaditya Thackeray Denies Disha Salian Link as Father Issues Rs 500 Crore Notice

A legal battle has emerged alongside the renewed CBI investigation into the death of Disha Salian, with her father seeking Rs 500 crore from Aaditya Thackeray and Anil Deshmukh.

Satish Salian has issued a legal notice alleging that statements made by the two politicians damaged his reputation by portraying his efforts to seek justice for his daughter as politically motivated. The notice reportedly demands compensation and public apologies.

The development comes just days after the CBI registered an FIR in the Disha Salian death case. Salian, who was 28, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a high-rise building in Mumbai’s Malad area.

At the time, police registered the incident as an accidental death. Her death became closely associated with public discussions surrounding the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died six days later. Salian had worked as Rajput’s manager.

Over the following years, questions and allegations concerning Salian’s death remained in public discussion. Her father later approached the Bombay High Court seeking a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The latest CBI action marks a significant new stage. According to reports, the agency registered an FIR on September 14 after the Bombay High Court directed a thorough investigation. The FIR reportedly includes several individuals whose roles require examination.

The Rs 500 crore notice is separate from the criminal investigation. Satish Salian’s legal representatives allege that Aaditya Thackeray and Anil Deshmukh made statements that characterized his legal campaign as politically motivated.

The notice reportedly says these claims were false and defamatory. It objects particularly to the suggestion that the family’s legal efforts were being used as a political instrument against Thackeray.

The notice also reportedly disputes claims that the CBI had already investigated the matter and cleared Thackeray. According to the legal document described in reports, Satish Salian’s side says such representations damaged his credibility.

A public apology is among the demands. Reports say the notice seeks an unconditional apology through print, television and digital media and requires the politicians to publish a video apology on their official social-media accounts.

Thackeray has responded by denying any relationship with Disha Salian. On September 16, he posted on X that he had never met or known her. He said attempts to connect him to her death had continued for years and described them as lacking evidence.

He also called for the investigation to be allowed to proceed without political interference. His response represents a direct rejection of the allegations and claims contained in the legal controversy.

The CBI investigation, meanwhile, is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death. Reports say the FIR names Thackeray, Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi, Rhea Chakraborty and other individuals or officials whose roles require investigation.

The inclusion of a person’s name in an FIR does not establish guilt. It indicates that investigators are examining the person’s alleged or potential role in the matter. The findings of the investigation would have to be established through the legal process.

Similarly, the Rs 500 crore figure represents the damages demanded by Satish Salian. It is not a judgment or an amount that has been awarded by a court.

The current situation therefore has two parallel legal dimensions. One concerns the CBI’s investigation into Disha Salian’s death, while the other concerns the allegations of defamation made by her father against political figures.

As the investigation proceeds, the evidence collected by the CBI and any response to the legal notice are likely to determine the next steps in both matters.
