The Cockroach Janta Party has announced plans for another protest in Delhi as its founder Abhijeet Dipke continues his campaign demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The latest development follows a large CJP demonstration at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2. Dipke used the gathering to repeat his criticism of the Election Commission and warn that the movement could expand if Kumar did not step down. Hindustan Times reported that Dipke referred to a possible “Jantar Mantar 2.0” campaign and said the protest could eventually include a demand concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The proposed Delhi protest is linked to the wider dispute over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The process has become controversial because opposition groups and civil-society campaigners have questioned whether eligible voters could be excluded during verification and deletion exercises.

The Election Commission has defended its electoral-roll procedures and rejected accusations that the revision process is politically motivated. The dispute therefore involves competing claims that need to be assessed separately from the political rhetoric surrounding the protests.

The CJP has argued that the Election Commission must be held accountable for decisions concerning electoral rolls. Dipke has made Kumar the principal target of the campaign and has called for his resignation.

The issue has gained additional attention following reports of disagreements among members of the Election Commission. The Indian Express reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections on several occasions regarding decisions associated with the SIR exercise. Those reports have prompted questions about the commission’s internal decision-making, although the existence of disagreements does not by itself prove misconduct.

The protests have also created a law-and-order dimension. In Delhi, hundreds of demonstrators were reportedly detained when groups attempted to reach Jantar Mantar. Organisers have criticised the restrictions, while authorities have responsibility for managing public demonstrations and maintaining public order.

The CJP has announced that the campaign will continue. Reports indicate that Dipke has called for a further demonstration in Delhi on October 10 if Kumar does not resign. The organisation has described the planned action as peaceful and has sought participation from people concerned about electoral fairness.

The movement is also attempting to build a national profile. The group previously gained attention through campaigns relating to examination-paper leaks and is now directing its organisational structure toward electoral issues.

The political significance of the campaign comes from the central role of the Election Commission in Indian democracy. The commission is responsible for preparing and updating electoral rolls and conducting elections. Questions about voter-list accuracy can therefore affect public confidence in the electoral system.

However, public claims about voter deletions, alleged political benefits and institutional wrongdoing remain contested. The Election Commission has rejected accusations of manipulation, while campaigners continue to demand greater transparency.

The coming Delhi protest could therefore become another major moment in the dispute. Its scale, the response of authorities and any subsequent statements from the Election Commission could influence the direction of the campaign.

For now, the CJP is maintaining pressure on Kumar, while Dipke has indicated that the movement could expand its political demands if the resignation call is not addressed. The controversy remains centred on electoral-roll revision, institutional accountability and competing interpretations of the Election Commission’s recent actions.
