Elon Musk Becomes Political Target as Trump Threatens ‘Full Force’ Over Party Defection

Elon Musk, one of the world’s most influential entrepreneurs, is now in the political crosshairs after former President Donald Trump warned of bringing the “full force of federal scrutiny” down upon him for allegedly preparing to fund Democratic candidates. Once close allies, Trump and Musk are now locked in a bitter and very public feud with high stakes for politics, business, and the 2025 election cycle.
During a fiery rally in Pennsylvania, Trump accused Musk of “selling out to the radical left” and warned that supporting Democrats would be considered a hostile act. “You don’t get to help the people trying to destroy our country and still enjoy all the benefits of a free market built by patriots,” Trump told the crowd. “If Elon wants to side with them, we will respond—strongly.”
The response may already be underway. According to sources within Trump’s circle, teams of legal and policy advisers have begun reviewing Musk’s extensive ties to federal agencies, especially in defense and space infrastructure. SpaceX currently has more than $6 billion in active government contracts, while Tesla benefits from a wide range of renewable energy incentives.
Though Musk has not formally endorsed any Democratic candidates, he has recently met with centrist Democrat governors and floated support for candidates who “value free speech and innovation.” He has also criticized Trump’s economic package as “wasteful” and “scientifically ignorant,” further straining the relationship.
Tensions reached a boiling point after Musk allegedly told associates that “Trumpism is toxic for the future of America’s technological leadership,” according to a leak published by Axios. The Trump campaign responded with a blistering statement calling Musk “arrogant, out-of-touch, and dangerously disloyal.”
This marks a dramatic departure from their former alliance. Musk was once considered a top informal adviser to Trump on matters of innovation and infrastructure. In 2020, Trump even cited Musk as an example of “American excellence” during a campaign speech in Michigan.
Political analysts say the fracture is likely to intensify as both men angle for influence over the same libertarian-leaning and business-savvy voters. “They’re both anti-establishment, but now they’re the establishment in different arenas,” said columnist Drew Felder. “There’s no more room for both of them at the top.”
Musk’s reaction to Trump’s threats has been uncharacteristically muted. In his only public comment so far, he posted a single-word tweet: “Noted.” However, associates suggest he is preparing a strategic response, possibly including a new PAC focused on bipartisan candidates and tech-forward policies.
Some in Trump’s orbit are urging him to de-escalate. “We shouldn’t be fighting Elon—he’s still one of us,” said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. “But I also understand the president’s frustration. You don’t turn your back on the team.”
The drama is playing out on a national stage, with voters, donors, and politicians watching closely. For Trump, it’s another loyalty test in his ongoing effort to dominate the Republican narrative. For Musk, it could be a turning point that pushes him from tech innovator to political disruptor.
One thing is certain: the fallout between Trump and Musk is more than a personal feud—it’s a reflection of deeper fractures in the American right and the uncertain future of political alliances in the post-Trump era.
